Crane migration is a phenomenon that piques our curiosity when millions of Sandhill Cranes bottleneck right through central Nebraska to feed and roost in the fields adjacent to the Platte River. For those of us living near this migration corridor, the cranes mark our seasons. We hear their familiar sounds, see them circling in the sky and know that spring is on its way, whether the fields are full of snow or as in this painting, displaying the vivid colors of early spring. Cranes also mate for life, with this painting depicting that grace of family time- Sandhill Crane style- while surrounded by the colors of spring coming alive.
